The interaction of moving assemblies is essential for any assembly to ensure the form, fit, and function of a design. In Fusionjoints assemble components together to simulate the mechanical motion of an assembly.

However, what if I want to test two things moving at the same time? Different joints are used to drive the motion study. These joints are driven through time by either a distance or angle.

Instead of waiting for a render to complete using my local computer, I can send the rendering to the cloud to be processed.

How to Render an Animation in Fusion 360

We can render a full motion study using the cloud as well. Cloning a simulation study can save an enormous amount of time when iterating designs. But why can I not render the motion study locally? I had renders, that took 3 minutes locally and 1 Hour in the cloud.

Online instruction manuals have so much more potential than paper manuals though. Rather than using static assembly images, videos and GIFs can be used to convey much more meaning and make the assembly process easier to understand.

In this post, we will learn how to use Autodesk Fusion to create assembly animations for products designed using the software. These animated assembly guides can be saved as videos, allowing the addition of narration or other voice-overs, or they can be published as animated GIFs.

With your Fusion assembly open in Fusionwe need to switch to the animation workspace to get started creating an assembly animation. You probably use a number of different Fusion workspaces in the course of designing your parts. I spend most of my time between the Model and Render workspaces for example. The Drawing workspace is extremely useful as well.

In this tutorial we will be using a workspace you might not have visited before, the Animation workspace. In this post we will be using this Lego Minifig as an example assembly. The Animation workspace can be a touch confusing when you first start using it. Each component in the assembly has a row on the Timeline showing changes made to that component.

Components can be shown or hidden, moved, rotated, or their appearance can be changed. The bulk of the work done creating our assembly animation will be done in the Timeline.

The Animation workspaces features a Timeline for creating the assembly animation. The other part of the Animation workspace with which you will want to familiarize yourself is the ribbon menu on the top of the screen. The controls available in the ribbon change in each different workspace, including the Animation workspace. In the Animation workspace there are actually fewer controls in the ribbon than there are in many of the other workspaces. This menu allows you to modify the position and orientation of parts in the assembly to create an animation.

Many of the controls in this menu can also be accessed by right-clicking on components in the assembly. The ribbon menu contains controls for creating the animation. Now that we are familiar with the Animation workspace, we will begin creating the assembly animation by setting the initial position of the components.

In the Timeline, you can move the scrub head forwards and backwards in time as we create the assembly. On the far left side of the timeline, there is a red curtain icon.Here is a quick tip on how to put some finishing touches on your assembly designs after you have modeled all the components and joints in Fusion You have done a great job capturing the form and the next step is to complete capturing the function in your design. You begin to capture function as you start to model joints in Fusion, but a few key things often need to be defined to complete this process.

Contact sets are a good way to restrict the motion of a part or a joint and can be easily built in when you need to demonstrate motion in an assembly. Creating a contact set is as simple as specifying the two components and Fusion will make sure that these two components will never interfere.

In other words, their motion is restricted once they come in contact with each other. Contact sets can be disabled when the motion of an assembly is not being demonstrated. A Motion link connects two joints in a way that you can have the motion of one joint drive the motion of another joint. We need the sliding jaw to move forward and back when the handle of the vise is turned and so we simply create a motion link between those two joints.

In addition you can specify how much the jaw slides for every turn of the handle, so that the design is very realistic. HI, I am able to setup a contact set and dragging my component in the design is working. But I would like to use the Drive Joints command to enter a specific value in the range of motion and I am unable to do so when Contact Sets are enabled.

Is this the intended behavior or am I missing a step? Hello, i would definitely like more info on this subject, there is far to little training for some of us out here. Taylor Stein has a few vids where he goes through the entire design of a small product, we see his mistakes and struggles with the program when it does not respond as it should, and how he works with it…. Related Posts Tip Tuesday: how to apply as-built joints using Fusion For those users, bodies and components can appear to be too similar to one another, and keeping things organised can be a challenge. Bodies are essentially collections of 3 dimensional features connected to one another, until they form a static representation of a part.

People can create multiple bodies within a Component. Modern Top down design methodologies use the concept of bodies as the bed rock of its power. First of all, you need to understand that as soon as you create a new Fusion design, it is already a Component, additionally it will always be the top level Component for the design. Then by default the first 3D features you create will start to form the first Body for the design and therefore the Component.

Components can contain one or multiple bodies. Typically though, as your design takes shape and you move into creating movement within your model, you would only expect to see a single body in each component. Components can represent either parts or sub-assemblies, so naturally sub-assembly components will be made up of other components. Building the component structure is how you communicate to the tradesman reading your drawings, or viewing your model, how you want them to assemble your design.

Any downstream user of your designs will benefit from what is in fact, the Bill of Materials for your product. This structure cannot be achieved with bodies alone. More properties and the ability to create custom properties will no doubt be added to Fusion Components in the future. So, essentially Bodies form the geometric representation of your designs, either independently or as a result of relationships with other Bodies. Then Components allow you to define an assembly structure, and via the use of Joints, you can determine how parts and sub-assemblies function with respect to one another.

When working with Components, you need to make sure you have the Component you are working with activated, otherwise you may get unexpected results. Just remember that the Fusion Design file is a Component of its own, so any additional features you add may end up as part of the top level Component, instead of the Component you thought you were adding it to. Take note, this is not like the motion study in which we can conduct motion analysis and animation in the animation workspace we're in with defined key frames. For this first example, this assembly is defined by three rigid joints. And the only joint here with a degree of freedom is our revolute. So here I can select revolute, right-click, and Animate Model. So notice the relationship and effect of the joints as we animate the model.

To add the animation, it's simply hitting the escape key. Moving forward, let me show you another example. So here we have another assembly. Let me grab this handle and rotate so here. I can animate this revolute joint or this another joint. Let's now head to our browser and select revolute three, right-click, and select Animate Model.
